Some thought on Remote Learning
“The students of the future will demand the learning support that is appropriate for their situation or context. Nothing more, nothing less." Dr. Marcus Specht
Hi guys! How did you find the presentation of Chris Fredrickson & Shannon Magee in our last class? I am sure your answer is going to be, It was great! of course it was. They provided us with many useful information we weren't aware of before. How many of you heard about Brightspace Manitoba Before? Are you amazed by 20 ready to use courses in Brightspace? Personally, I found it significantly helpful information that is needed for me at the time I am looking for my own class. Having this opportunity I would like to thank them for such incredibly helpful information and sharing their experiences with us .
Brightspace Learning Environment is an innovative learning management system for creating, hosting, and editing online learning resources. This Learning Management System is available to Manitoba learners and educators. It has grade 9-12 web based courses, all compulsory, mandatory and elective courses developed by provinces and available to all teachers and pre service teachers in the provinces. Brightspace also has apps that can facilitate the teaching learning process.
Brightspace Pulse is a mobile app for students that can help you stay connected and on track with your Brightspace courses. It gives them one easy view of course calendars, readings, assignments, evaluations, grades, activity feed and news. The app will help students to make better decisions about how to handle their workload, when to submit assignments, and when to prepare for tests.
Brightspace Portfolio is a classroom app that helps students capture evidence of their learning. They can use the app to take pictures or videos of their work, record their thoughts and reflections, and then log in to their school's Brightspace account to manage their work.
Brightspace has also many other features that can be used for remote learning of which online discussion board is one.

Hi Hirpa. Yes! I also learned a lot from Chris and Shannon's talk. I hadn't heard about Brightspace before, but I've got an account now! The courses and resources available will definitely be helpful for me going forward. Thanks for the video about online discussion boards. Although I've never used one before (at least not as a teacher), I think this is something I might experiment with in the future. I like the fact that, with online message boards, students can take a bit more to respond to comments, questions, etc. than they would be able to in a 'live' classroom setting.
ReplyDeleteHi Hirpa! I really did enjoy the presentation. I had never hear even heard of brightspace before that day. It really strikes me, that I have lived in Manitoba for my whole life and have never heard or used brightspace. Having access to those courses really gives me a piece of mind if I am ever in a situation that I have to teach high school. They will be a good reference to build my content knowledge. I already signed up and have access to brightspace, it looks promising so far.
ReplyDeleteI had the opportunity to listen to both Chris and Shannon speak again at the BYTE conference. Shannons presentation dove deeper into the funster app and I think it could be really useful for students to build theri independence in learning! I encourage you to check it out!
Hello Hirpa! what an excellent post. Like you, I had not heard of Brightspace before last week's presentation, but I have since signed up! Thank you for the info :)
